When I was a kid, I had ear infections all the time. They hurt like hell and were chronic in nature. My parents were concerned I’d have to get tubes inserted in my ears until my grandma reminded my mom of her ear infection remedy.
It’s an easy remedy to do. All you need is a cotton sock and 1 and 1/2 cups of sea salt. Use sea salt, not table salt. Sea salt gets the best results. Himalayan pink salt works as well.
Pour the salt into the cotton sock and tie it closed. Next, warm a skillet over low to medium heat. Place the sock in the pan and heat for about 5 minutes. Shake it around and don’t let it set on the pan for too long without moving it. Flip it to heat it evenly.
When the sock has been warmed evenly, place the sock on the ear. If it’s your child with the ear infection, rest their ear directly onto the sock like a pillow. This works for both adults and children.
The heat in the sock helps relieve pain and the sea salt helps draw out the gunk in the ear that causes the pain. Salt naturally removes moisture from the ear as well, which is crucial for bacteria to survive.
Reuse the sock as much as you need to. When the sock starts looking nasty and discolored, empty out the salt and wash before using again.
It’s a cheap, natural, and effective way to comfort yourself or your kids when an ear infection is causing pain. Share it with your family and friends. It really works!
